Australian Pet Insurance Reviews

Choosing pet insurance based on price alone is a mistake. A cheap policy with low limits, high exclusions, and poor claims service can cost you more in the long run than a slightly pricier policy that actually pays when you need it.

At PawKeen, we review every major Australian pet insurance provider based on five key criteria: coverage breadth, claim limits and sub-limits, excess and benefit percentages, customer claims experience, and pricing transparency.

What We Assess in Every Review

  • Coverage — What’s actually included? Do they cover dental, cruciate, tick paralysis, behavioural therapy, alternative therapies?
  • Limits — Annual limits, per-condition sub-limits, and lifetime caps. An “unlimited” annual limit doesn’t help if there’s a $3,000 sub-limit on the condition your pet actually needs treatment for.
  • Exclusions — How do they define pre-existing conditions? What breed-specific exclusions apply? Are there any hidden exclusions in the PDS?
  • Claims process — How fast are claims processed? Can you submit via an app? What’s the average turnaround time?
  • Price vs value — We calculate the actual cost of coverage per dollar of benefit, not just the headline premium.

How We’re Different

Unlike comparison sites that earn commissions from every provider they list, PawKeen’s reviews are editorially independent. We don’t rank providers based on who pays us the most. Our reviews are based on reading the PDS, speaking to real customers, and analysing claims data where available.

If a provider has poor exclusions or a history of claim disputes, we’ll say so — even if they’re a popular brand.
